We rented a car which was fortunate because we ended up doing a lot of driving. In both Salt Lake and the surrounding suburbs, the automobile is king, though I must admit that Salt Lake at least seems to be attempting to remedy that. They currently have some massive plans to redevelop the downtown core and there was construction everywhere. More at downtownrising.com. They also have a light rail called Trax that was put in for the Olympics, but from what I saw it wasn't getting much use. But that may also have been because the schools had mostly let out for the summer and the students are big users of the transit.
Here are some pictures of our trip:
This is Alex driving our Hyundai rental car which was actually a really smooth drive. At this time we were on our way up to Park City, pictured below. The town was kind of disneyesq in its perfection, however I had fun walking around and it seems like there were still some nooks and crannys we didn't explore. I'd love to come back in the winter when there is snow, perhaps rent a cabin with some friends during the Sundance Film festival.
This is Alex and I at the top of a huge mountain that we hiked up with a viewpoint over looking Salt Lake. I am rather sunburned at this point.
On Saturday we went to the HRC True Colors tour with Erasure and Cyndi Lauper. It was a blast. Margaret Cho MC'd and was definitely one of the highlights that and Cyndi Lauper ripping off her wig and charging into the crowd all without missing a note.
Alex has more pictures posted on his smugmug account.
